Established in
1930, the Institute for Fisheries Research (IFR) [more
info] is a cooperative enterprise between the Fisheries Division of
the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and the University of Michigan.
The Institute conducts research to support fisheries management in Michigan.
Major research areas include:
· Ecology
and population dynamics of stream, lake, and Great Lakes fishes
· Watershed
modeling of fish habitat in streams
· Spatial
analysis of fish habitat and fisheries of lakes, rivers, and the Great
Lakes
· Statistical
design and analysis of survey data on fish populations and fisheries
As of year 2000,
the Institute has supported, guided, and benefited from 74 Masters and
51 Doctoral students, and has published 2055 Fisheries Research Reports
and 127 other reports. Personnel at the Institute work closely with faculty,
staff and students of the School of Natural Resources & Environment
and the Museum of Zoology. IFR is
located in the Museums Annex Building, just north of the Ruthven Exhibit
Museum, on the University of Michigan's central campus.
