     Thirty-five years fisheries research experience, including 33 years experience with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Fisheries Division executing various projects at increasingly higher levels of responsibility, which includes 12 years performing statistical analysis of fisheries research data.
   
Experience and duties
July 2002 - Present
  • Research Associate (University of Michigan - School of Natural Resources and Environment) - Conduct fisheries research projects through grants from Michigan Department of Natural Resources - Fisheries Division. Complete technical documents for Division publication and peer-review journals. Serve on Division Committees and work with Division field personnel to complete comprehensive watershed assessments.
November 2001 - June 2002
  • Research Station Manager (Institute for Fisheries Research) - Develop annual work plans and budget for inclusion in Fisheries Division work cycle and Federal Aid reporting cycle. Develop long-range plans and budget for research facility. Manage human resources of facility and supervise research projects.
  • Develop and conduct fisheries research projects. Write technical documents for Division publication and peer-review journals. Serve as educator and consultant to Division regarding data collection, analysis, and angler survey methods.
June 1990 - November 2001
  • Statistician 13 (Institute for Fisheries Research) - Responsible for the design of projects and experiments for fisheries research and management programs, statistical analysis, collection and interpretation of data, and preparation of various reports for publication.
  • Present fisheries research findings to civic and professional groups.
  • Provided expert testimony on angler survey methods for Fisheries Division, 2000 Consent Decree Treaty of 1836.
June 1980 - June 1990
  • Fisheries Technician Supervisor VI (Institute for Fisheries Research) - Supervised, coordinated and scheduled Fisheries Technicians on a daily basis in the office and in the field. Other responsibilities included the maintenance and construction of fisheries research equipment, and maintenance of research stations statewide, and safety officer for the fisheries research section.
  • Assisted in preparing statistically valid survey schedules for research and fisheries division use, tabulated and summarized various survey data and developed computer programs written in FORTRAN and BASIC.
January 1978 - January 1979, January 1980 - June 1980
  • Statistical Technician 7 (Institute for Fisheries Research) - Assist in the compilation and analysis of fisheries sport catch data for management and research. Prepare tables and summaries for reports, supervised and scheduled data processing by party-time clerks and work-study students. Assisted in planning surveys for field and research personnel, and developed computer programs.

  • Educational leave of absence to attend Eastern Michigan University.
December 1970 - January 1978
  • Fisheries Aide 05 (Saline Fisheries Research Station) - Assisted in fisheries research experiments. Including: aging and identifying freshwater fish; collecting and processing benthic and plankton samples; collecting fish for experimental purposes using gear such as trap nets and electrofishing equipment; assisting in fish population estimates in various Michigan lakes and streams; surveying anglers for creel survey information; maintaining fisheries research equipment; assisting in testing pesticides on various fish species; constructing research equipment; maintaining a fisheries research station and ponds; operating heavy equipment such as a backhoe, bulldozer and dump truck.
