Fort Wilkins Historic State Park offers camping and day use facilities and features a restored 1844 military outpost and one of the first lighthouses on Lake Superior. Restoration work and development began in the 1930s. Costumed interpreters demonstrate the history of the Keweenaw Peninsula fort.

The cabin is located on the pristine undeveloped shore of Lake Fanny Hooe, between the west end of the west campground and the boat launch. It is snuggled into the woods with a beautiful view of the lake and the opposite shoreline. It is rustic in nature but not that far (500yds) from a modern restroom.
