104 Dansville State Game Area Southern Lower Peninsula

wildlife viewing  |  directions and facility information

A view of the wetland complex at Dansville State Game Area. Wetlands make excellent fish and wildlife habitat.
Photo: MI DNR

Dansville is a gently rolling area that contains forest, brushy old fields, and several small lakes. Footpaths and 2-track roads crisscross the site and provide good hiking access to the interior part of the property. This site is undeveloped and has no facilities, so come prepared.

Wildlife Viewing

Ring-necked pheasants, bobolinks, and meadowlarks occur in the grassy upland areas of this site. All of these birds build their nests right on the ground. Wild turkeys and white-tailed deer are plentiful. Wading birds such as herons and egrets may be viewed on the lakes and wetland, and waterfowl viewing is especially good in the spring when ducks are in their breeding plumage. Call the number below for a map of the area.

This area is open to public hunting. Check with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources for hunting seasons and regulations.
