The Ninth National Wild Turkey Symposium was held 10-14 December 2005, at the Amway Grand Hotel in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The Symposium was held in conjunction with the 66th Midwest Fish and Wildlife Conference.

The National Wild Turkey Symposium provides a venue for researchers, biologists, and land managers to present and share the results of their current research. It provides valuable opportunity for professionals to discuss current topics, problems that they are facing, and successes that they have had regarding turkey management.

The symposium is held every five years. The first symposium was held in Memphis, Tennessee in 1959. Michigan was the most northern state to hold this symposium to date. Since the first meeting, the symposium has been hosted in Missouri (1970), Texas (1975), Arkansas (1980), Iowa (1985), South Carolina (1990), South Dakota (1995), and Georgia (2000).

The theme for the Ninth National Wild Turkey Symposium was Wild Turkey Management: Accomplishments, Strategies and Opportunities. Authors submitted papers on all aspects of biology, ecology, behavior, conservation, management, and research methods of wild turkeys.

In addition to oral presentations, attendees could have registered for a rocket-net safety training workshop and a field trip of southern Michigan wild turkey habitat (hog roast included). Other symposium activities included an informal Saturday night reception, welcome reception, plenary session, and two networking receptions at the Van Andel.
