Author Instructions
Conference and symposium proceedings provide avenues for communicating scientific and management information to natural resource professionals. One important advantage of conference proceedings is that they contain, in one volume, a large amount of information on a single concept or topic.
Abstracts and manuscripts will be accepted based on the merits and scientific value of each paper. Abstracts will be peer-reviewed. Authors will be notified by March 2006 of abstract acceptance. Authors of accepted abstracts are expected to submit manuscripts and make oral presentations. The deadline for accepted manuscripts is December 15, 2006. Materials from accepted presentations will be published as the Proceedings of the Tenth American Woodcock Symposium. All manuscripts submitted for oral presentations will be peer-reviewed, refereed, and published in book chapter format. Hardbound proceedings will be available after the symposium.
Abstracts in MS Word format can be submitted via e-mail as attachments to DNR-WoodcockSymposium@michigan.gov. Abstracts and manuscripts can also be mailed via USPS to:
Al Stewart, Program Chairman/Editor
Michigan Department of Natural Resources
Wildlife Division, 4th Floor Mason Building
Lansing, MI 48933
Those mailing abstracts and manuscripts should include one hard copy and one electronic copy (MS Word) on disk/CD. All authors are required to send a transmittal letter to the Program Chair that states the abstract and manuscript are being submitted exclusively for publication in the Tenth American Woodcock Symposium Proceedings.
Format
Abstracts and manuscripts need to be prepared to reflect a quality acceptable as a scientific paper. Follow TWS guidelines used for the Journal of Wildlife Management (see below for an example.) Authors should use Times New Roman font with a font size of 10 or 12. Manuscripts should be double spaced and left margin justified. Left, right, top, and bottom margins should be 3cm (1.1875 inches.) Do not staple manuscript pages together.
